Whimsica images get International Awards

I entered a couple of images in the International Loupe Awards and received Bronze Awards for both of them.  Hmmm, I was going for gold, but the competition was pretty stiff!

Wedding with tea ceremony

What a whirlwind day this couple had, with a traditional church wedding, then photos at the beautiful Carlton Gardens, and a visit to Melbourne University before being whisked off to a traditional tea ceremony prior to their reception at the Clarion.  The day went without a hitch and the happy couple were, smiling, relaxed and as fresh as daisies all day long!

LIGHTING WORKSHOP with Linda at Bluehouse Studio

I am very excited to be offering a three hour hands on lighting workshop at the studio on September 29th.  We have the services of beautiful professional model Baylee (she is featured in “Swept Away” from the Whimsica collection) and of course participants will have full use of my studio and lighting equipment, backdrops and props!   After I organized this I realised that the workshop is at exactly the same time as the AFL  grand final, so for all your footy fans I will repeat the workshop on Sunday 30th.  Please see the flyer for details and contact me via email to book, or to ask any questions.

Whimsica now showing at Manyung Gallery

“Fruits from Afar”

What a fabulous opening night at Manyung gallery last Friday!  I was so honored to have my work included.  Manyung is currently showing six pieces from my WHIMSICA collection including the latest work “Fruits from Afar”. It the most ambitious piece yet, as I painted all the hieroglyphics onto canvas and photographed them for the background, the row of slaves are also all models, and I made all their costumes and props myself (well my octagenarian aunts helped to attach hundreds of beads onto the collars -bless them! The collection will be on show and for sale  all September at Manyung gallery 1408 Nepean Highway Mount Eliza.

My work off to Russia!

How exciting, I have just had my work chosen to be included in an exhibition in St Petersburg Russia, showcasing our beautiful city of Melbourne.  There are 24 photographers in the exhibition and three lucky ones will be chosen to go to Russia in November for the exhibition opening!  Keep your fingers crossed for me!  The exhibition will also be showing at Swanston Hall in Melbourne from September 24th. Here are a few more of my images of beautiful Melbourne which did not make the cut!

Triple Silvers!

As many of you will know the Australian Professional Photography Awards were held last month. This is a chance for professionals to enter their latest work and find out where they stand among the best of the best. This year I decided to enter after a break of six years and I was delighted to receive three silver awards for pieces from my work in progress “Whimsica”. The collection will present  historical themes which have been produced using contemporary techniques.

The Goose Girl

The Butcher's wife

Thanks must go to the lovely models: Bek, Ashlee and Tammie who braved squealing piglets, aggressive geese and the murky waters at sunset to help me with these images.

BEHIND THE SCENES SNAPSHOTS Learning curve: working with piglets is earshattering, they squeal all the time! and they can really run, thank goodness we had plenty of help to chase them down.  And as for standing in an unspeakably gooey and slippery dam trying to get a live girl to float like a dead one, well that was a fun evening.  I could have done without having to go back in there after dark to retrieve my reflector, which had floated off into the deepest part of the dam – while my assistant was sipping nice hot soup in dry clothes and taking these snaps (and laughing a lot). But I have really loved creating these images and look forward to completing the collection sometime toward the end of this year.

Gumboots and glam

This bride came prepared, she brought her red gumboots to her Yarra Valley wedding.  They came in handy as the rain did not stop, but the weather did nothing to dampen the spirits of this happy and relaxed couple.
